Routine Immunisations

Routine immunisations for children are organised through the Leicestershire Immunisation Department. An appointment card will be sent to you through the post and these clinics are usually held on a Wednesday afternoon.

If you have any questions about immunisations please speak to the Patient Services staff member or practice nurse.

Diabetes

We offer all diabetic patients an annual review with our diabetic specialist nurse. Patients will be asked to attend for blood tests two weeks beforehand. During the appointment blood sugar, blood cholesterol readings, blood pressure, foot and eye care, along with kidney function will all be assessed.

Advice will also be given on diet, exercise, smoking and alcohol, also flu and pneumonia vaccinations will be offered.

Diabetic Retinopathy screening is offered annually by a mobile unit from the University Hospitals of Leicester.

Coronary Heart Disease

Patients who have had angina, heart attacks or coronary bypass grafts are offered an annual review with one of the nurses. You will be asked to attend for cholesterol blood testing two weeks beforehand. Blood pressure, cholesterol, diet, exercise, alcohol, smoking and weight and medication will be reviewed, and flu and pneumonia vaccinations will be offered. It will be ensured that the necessary preventative medication is prescribed.

Cholesterol control and regular exercise can prevent heart disease.

Child Immunisations

Appointments for childhood immunisations are sent directly by the Health Authority. If you have any questions your Health Visitor will be happy to answer them, or you may discuss with your GP.

Cervical Smear Testing

Smear tests are conducted by our Practice Nurses. The Cytology Department in Leicester will send you a reminder when you are next due – normally 3 yearly for women aged 25-50, and 5 yearly for those over 50, unless advised differently by your GP.

Bereavement Support

We are here to help and support you through this difficult time.

The death of someone close can be shattering. Everyone experiences grief differently; there is no ‘normal’ or ‘right’ way to grieve. How we react will be influenced by many different things, including our age and personality, our cultural background and religious beliefs, our previous experiences of bereavement, our circumstances and how we cope with loss.

Phlebotomy

The Surgery operates a blood clinic every weekday morning from 8.30 am – 12.30 pm.

Appointments can be booked for the blood clinic once you have spoken to a Clinician or your Consultant  has sent you the paperwork.

Asthma / COPD

Annual reviews are undertaken by the Practice Nurse. During these reviews patients will have a check of lung function, and be given advice on acute Asthma attacks. Advice is available for those wishing to stop smoking, avoid trigger factors and improve lifestyle.

Asthma – If your condition is stable, you are able to submit an online Asthma Review form, you can also arrange a telephone call with the Practice Nurse. If your symptoms are deteriorating or you are having any concerns please make an appointment with our Nurse.
