Weight Loss Medications
Statement about Weight Loss Medications
You may have noticed from recent TV and Newspaper articles, that the NHS has recently approved the use of a weight-loss drugs such as Mounjaro.
The application of this new drug comes via an injection, and requires a great deal of medical supervision, monitoring, and review, to ensure that patients are safe and obtaining the expected benefits.
The Local NHS Commissioner (LLR ICB) has not yet agreed how this service will be funded in our area. Uppingham Surgery has agreed with the Local Medical Committee recommendation that LLR surgeries should not deliver this service until they have agreed a long-term funding arrangement.
To ensure that the surgery is able to offer this new service, it is necessary for us to employ additional, suitably qualified, staff to administer this drug and provide the required wrap-around support. Therefore, until the appropriate staff are in place, we will be unable to satisfy requests for consultations about this medication.
Please be rest assured that once the necessary staff are in situ, we will update our website with the necessary service launch information.
Whilst we are sorry that we cannot offer this to you at this time, weight-loss drugs such as Mounjaro are available privately and patients have the option of sourcing it via the multiple sites offering this service.
